Commissions make me crazy!
I have been working on some commissions for the first part of January and truthfully I am so grateful to have the opportunity to make work for some of my favorite patrons ever... But It has been the closest thing I can compare to the memory of labor pains....Sometimes as an artist things flow and work like a fine tuned clock and other times nada. I think it is possibly because I have had a break of three weeks where my family was home for the holidays and instead of making work... all my creativity went into wrapping packages, making cookies and hosting an open house (and I thank you all that came out). Actually, the problem is I had way too much fun and now getting back into my art groove hasn't been as easy as it usually is during the year. I'm not complaining.... and I am happy the way it is going. The first painting, 60 x 48 has been the hardest, that's a lot of wax and a lot of area to design and unify and it took from December 28th until well, today, when I completed it. Thankfully, I am really happy with it and now I just hope that the people that commissioned me... like it also.....
